Using a "Shelf" for Convenient Icon Access

The shelf is the blue strip at the top of an Icon View window. It is a place to keep the icons you reach for often, so they stay in view no matter how you scroll the green area below.

To put an icon on the shelf, drag it up into the blue strip. To take it off, drag it back down. An icon on the shelf is the same icon, not a copy; moving or removing the underlying file changes the shelf icon too.

If the shelf is not shown, choose "Show Shelf" from the View menu.
