Changing File and Directory Permissions

Select an icon and choose "Permissions" from the Selected menu to open its permissions panel. The panel shows who may read, write, and run the file, grouped as Owner, Group, and Others.

Owner   read write exec
Group   read write ----
Others  read ---- ----

Click a box to grant or revoke that permission, then click Apply. For a directory, "exec" means the right to enter the directory and list its contents.

You can only change the permissions of files you own. For anything else the boxes are shown but cannot be changed.
