Moving and Copying Files and Directories

To move an icon, drag it from one Icon View window and drop it in another. To copy it instead of moving it, hold the Ctrl key while you drag; the pointer shows a plus sign to tell you a copy will be made.

Dropping an icon on a folder icon puts it inside that folder. Dropping it on open space in another window puts it in that window's directory.

• Drag with no key held: move.
• Drag with Ctrl held: copy.
• Drag with the middle button: a menu asks whether to move, copy, or link.
