Overview of CyStar

Documentation / CyStar Text Editor

CyStar

CyStar is Blueprint Desktop's text editor. The document surface is CyText, not stock XmText. The window is Motif chrome: menu bar, message line, status line, and a vertical zoom wheel.

One process holds one window. That window can hold several documents as tabs (File > New > New Tab, up to 12). File > New > New Window, or starting cystar again, is another process. The Window menu switches tabs in this process.

Key maps

Options > Preferences has two key maps. The choice takes effect immediately.

An older cystar.conf that set windows_cut_paste off, and has no keymap key, opens in Joe / WordStar. See Editing and Keys.

Getting started

Open a file from the Session menu (Text Editor), from cyopen or the file manager, or run cystar with a path. A file:// URL from a desktop is accepted. Help > Keys & Shortcuts is the chord map for the map you are in. In Joe / WordStar mode, ^G opens that same face. In Windows / Notepad mode, Ctrl-G is Go to line, not the keys face. Help > Overview is this book.
