Applying the Change

Applying the Change

Two buttons sit along the bottom left.

Apply write the settings and put them into effect
Close dismiss the window

Nothing you do to the edge buttons or the wheel changes your desktop. The preview follows them; the real screen does not, until you press Apply.

What Apply Does

1. Writes the two settings to the window manager's settings file. 2. Tells the running window manager to re-read it.

The window manager then republishes the usable screen area, which every program that watches it picks up, and re-tiles whatever is on screen. The change is visible at once, without restarting anything and without disturbing a window you have open.

The Desks Overview is one of the programs that watches the usable area: with Desks run set to Auto, reserving a strip down the left or right can flip it from a row of cells to a column. See the Desks book, from Help Books in the Contents pane .

If Apply Fails

Apply reports an error if it cannot write the settings file. Check that ~/.cyanotype exists and that you can write to it.

If no Blueprint window manager is running, the settings are still written. They will be picked up when one starts.

Close

Close dismisses the window. It does not undo an Apply you have already made, and it does not apply anything you have not.

There Is No Undo

To go back, set the controls to what they were and press Apply again. The previous values are printed by cydock --print, which is worth running before you start experimenting; see From the Command Line.
