Documentation / Contents - Desks
The overview has four menus: Overview, Desk, Window and Help, in that order along the menu bar. The same four are on the popup you get by pressing the third mouse button anywhere in the map, which is what you use when the menu bar is hidden.
Hide Menubar Ctrl+H Show Global Desk Hide Snapshots --- Display Window Name Display Icon Name Display No Names --- Scaling > --- Preferences... --- Exit Ctrl+Q
Hide Menubar takes the menu bar away and gives the space to the map. The third mouse button still reaches every menu, which is the only way back, so the popup is not a convenience here; it is the door.
Show Global Desk shows or hides the Global cell. See Moving Windows Between Desks.
Hide Snapshots switches between miniature windows and plain buttons. See Size, Orientation, and Labels.
The three Display items are a radio group: pick one. See Size, Orientation, and Labels.
Scaling is a submenu of five sizes plus a custom dialog; see below.
Preferences... opens the preferences panel. It is a Blueprint addition to this menu, and it is placed last so that it displaces nothing the original tool shipped. See Setting Preferences.
6% 7% 8% 9% 10% --- Custom...
The percentage is how big the map is relative to your real screen. Eight percent is the default. Custom... opens a slider dialog covering the full range, four percent to eighteen percent, in one percent steps, with Apply and OK: Apply lets you try a size without dismissing the dialog. See Size, Orientation, and Labels.
New Desk Ctrl+N Copy Selected Ctrl+C Rename Selected Ctrl+R Goto Selected Ctrl+O Delete Selected
Four of the five work; see Creating, Renaming, and Removing Desks.
Copy Selected is present but not yet live, and appears greyed. Nothing in this program is drawn as an active control while doing nothing.
Delete Selected has no accelerator on purpose.
List All... Ctrl+L --- Restore All Shift+Ctrl+M Minimize All Ctrl+M --- Remove from Desk Ctrl+D Add to Global Ctrl+G --- Minimize Ctrl+E Restore Shift+Ctrl+E Raise Lower
The whole Window menu is present but not yet live. Every item appears greyed, and its accelerator does nothing, because an accelerator on an insensitive item does not fire.
The menu is shipped in this state deliberately, so the structure matches the original tool and so it is obvious what is coming. In the meantime the two verbs you are most likely to want are available another way: drag a miniature onto another cell to move a window, and onto the Global cell to make it sticky. See Moving Windows Between Desks. The window manager's own shortcuts cover minimize, restore, raise and lower for the focused window; see the MenuShortcuts book, from Help Books in the Contents pane .
Click for Help Shift+F1 Overview Index Keys & Shortcuts Tutorial Product Info
Overview opens this book at Overview of the Desks Overview. Index opens the book's contents. Keys & Shortcuts opens Keys and Shortcuts. Tutorial opens the overview walkthrough. Product Info opens Copyright Information.
Click for Help is greyed. It needs the help viewer's widget-path resolver, which is not built yet, so it stays inert rather than pretending to work.
Press the third mouse button anywhere in the map and the same four menus appear as a popup. It carries exactly the same items, wired from the same table, so nothing behaves differently there.
This is the only way back once you have chosen Hide Menubar.
