Documentation / Install
Blueprint Desktop 1.1.0 for FreeBSD amd64. Cut on 31 October 2026 from tip 615cad33, on FreeBSD 15.1-RELEASE. The package abi is FreeBSD:15:amd64. pkg will refuse it on an older major.
This cut is dynamically linked. Motif, Xft, fontconfig, and freetype are not inside the archive. The Linux and NetBSD packages are the later cuts, and those two carry Motif in the package. This one does not. It expects them from the ports tree.
The package records these dependencies. With a configured repo, pkg add fetches the ones that are not already installed. With no repo, install them yourself before the local package.
PAM and libc come with the base system. The binaries were linked against libXm.so.4, libXft.so.2, libGL.so.1, libX11.so.6, and libXext.so.6, among the rest of that list.
From the downloads page:
SHA256SUMS lists every file on that page, in GNU form: digest, two spaces, name. FreeBSD sha256 prints a different shape. Compare the digest:
sha256 cyanotype-1.1.0.pkg sha256 cyanotype-1.1.0-freebsd-amd64.tar.gz
Or, if sha256sum is on the machine:
grep -E 'cyanotype-1.1.0.pkg|freebsd-amd64' SHA256SUMS | sha256sum -c -
Do not install a file that does not match. The native package name cyanotype-1.1.0.pkg is not the NetBSD file cyanotype-1.1.0.tgz. Do not mix them.
You have to be root. The package name is cyanotype, version 1.1.0, prefix /usr/local.
pkg add cyanotype-1.1.0.pkg
pkg add of a local file still resolves the dependencies above. If the repo is not configured and a dependency is missing, it stops. Install the missing port, then run pkg add again.
Remove it later with:
pkg delete cyanotype
Same binaries. pkg does not check the dependency list for you. The libraries still have to be there. Make a work directory first.
mkdir cyanotype-1.1.0 cd cyanotype-1.1.0 tar -xzf ../cyanotype-1.1.0-freebsd-amd64.tar.gz
You get cyanotype.install, cyanotype.license, cyanotype.readme, cyanotype.remove, cyanotype.ss, and cyanotype.sw. As root:
./cyanotype.install
It prints the copyright, asks if you want to continue, and installs into /usr/local. ./cyanotype.install now accepts the license without the prompts.
From that same directory, as root, ./cyanotype.remove takes this install back off.
CyLogin is in the package and is not turned on. Leave it off unless you want it to replace the console login.
CYANOTYPE_EPM_ENABLE_CYLOGIN=yes pkg add cyanotype-1.1.0.pkg
The same variable works in front of ./cyanotype.install now. Or later, as root:
/usr/local/bin/cylogin-enable
Read Setting Up CyLogin before you enable it.
The session command is /usr/local/bin/startcyanotype.sh. It starts the window manager and the rest of the desk, and it waits on the window manager. When the window manager exits, the session ends. The first run creates ~/.cyanotype for that account.
Run it as the X session. If you start X yourself:
xinit /usr/local/bin/startcyanotype.sh
If a display manager logs you in, put this in the session file it runs:
exec /usr/local/bin/startcyanotype.sh
cyhelp is in /usr/local/bin. The books on this site are the same text.
After you have replaced binaries in a desk that is already up, startcyanotype.sh --restart reloads the desk and does not kill the window manager.
Programs you want started with the desk, and only on a cold start, go in ~/.cyanotype/startup/ as executable files. They run in name order after the desk is up. --restart does not run them again.
