Keys and Shortcuts in the Editor

These are the keys that work inside the Menu & Shortcuts window itself. They are not the shortcuts you are editing; for those see The Action Catalog.

Everywhere in the Window

Tab Move the focus to the next control
Shift+Tab Move the focus to the previous control
Space Press the button that has the focus
Arrow keys Move within a list or a group of buttons

On the Desktop Menu Page

Enter Commit the Label or Command field you are editing

Moving the focus out of a field commits it too, so clicking somewhere else saves your edit rather than losing it.

While Capturing a Shortcut

Escape Cancel the capture, change nothing
any chord Bind that chord to the selected action

Pressing Set Shortcut... a second time also cancels. Modifier keys pressed on their own are ignored, so you can settle your fingers before the key that counts. See Setting a Shortcut.

What Is Deliberately Not Here

The editor has no keyboard shortcuts of its own for Add, Delete or Reset. Those are buttons, and the destructive ones ask before they act. A one-key path to Delete or to Reset All Defaults would be a way to lose a menu by accident.

Buttons Along the Bottom

Help open this book
Close dismiss the panel

Close commits a pending field edit first. There is nothing else to save; every other change was written when you made it. See Overview of Menu & Shortcuts.
